Chapter 1 - Up & Running (but where was the Greek Salad?)

In an attempt to document (and hopefully fondly recall in times to come) our 'SupperClub Adventures" I've created this blog. As yet un-named, the supper club is a way for a group of foodie-friends (and wannabe foodies) to share some time together and explore a world of cuisines, ingredients and cooking. So after much ado, much planning and considerable theme explorations, our Supper Club kicked off last Saturday night. Why we're not sure, but completely well received, we (or should I say the inaugural hostess) chose a Greek theme.

So Greek and kinda-Greek all around. There was Spanakopita (of course), roasted lamb, green bean in olive oil, baklava, olives-a-plenty, Daktyla, feta'ed rice, tzatiki . . . . . . but NO GREEK SALAD. But that' another story.

The food was great but the real magic here happened long before the first bite black olive tapenade was consumed. It was all in the 'getting there'. Some of the prize quotes:

"Where the hell do I find phyllo pastry?"
"I haven't turned on my stove in months. Can you make my legumes for me?"
"I hope she has lots of gravy for this tasteless rice."
"Couldn't find Greek wine so I brought Italian . . . . . . close enough"
"Would black sesame seeds work in place of nigella"
"Oh crap! We forgot the Tzatiki!"

There was so much more. And all of this before any eating. What a great night! What a great thing to look forward to every month.

So onto the next round of planning . . . . . . . . . . what's on the menu? Stay tuned.
